Attenborough, Beeston and Chilwell LETS Rules

  1. The ABC LETS is a non-profit membership society. It is organized locally by the ABC LETS Steering Group, who act on behalf of the members.
  2. ABC LETS provides an information service through which members can exchange goods and services, and maintains a central account of that exchange for the benefit of members.
  3. Members agree to the ABC LETS holding their details on computer and distributing to members those details relevant to exchange.
  4. Members may give or receive from one another credit in the local LETS unit called BEES.
  5. ABC LETS and the Steering Group accept no liability for loss or injury suffered by any person as a result of the provision of goods or services of any kind whatsoever under the scheme.
  6. ABC LETS can give no warranty or undertaking as to the value, condition or quality of services or items offered. Members should seek to determine for themselves the quality or standard of work offered before agreeing a trade. ABC LETS publishes a directory of resources and services made available by members, but, as with any directory or newspaper, it cannot be held responsible for the quality of goods and services on offer.
  7. Members are individually responsible for their own tax liabilities and returns. ABC LETS has no liability to claims for tax on participants, and has no obligation or liability to report to the tax authorities or collect taxes on their behalf.
  8. Only the account holder can authorise the transfer of units from their account with the exception of minimal services charges.
  9. No interest is charged on trading. The Steering Group is authorised to charge joining and renewal fees in BEES and/or sterling. It may also levy service charges on members’ accounts in BEES.
  10. All accounts start at zero. Members are not obliged to have credit in their account before trading with another member, subject to any limit that may be set by the Steering Group.
  11. No money is deposited into or issued from the LETS accounts. Members may engage in transactions entirely in BEES, or on a part cash basis. However, only BEES are recorded on the LETS accounts.
  12. No one is obliged to trade. On leaving ABC LETS however, members with commitments outstanding are encouraged to balance their account.
  13. Any member is entitled to know the balance and turnover of another member’s account. The Steering Group may also decide to publish the balances and turnovers of all accounts from time to time.
  14. The ABC LETS administrators may decline to record an account or directory entry considered inappropriate for legal or other reasons.
  15. Members have the right and are encouraged to attend any meeting of the Steering Group, and to participate in decision-making.
  16. The Steering Group reserve the right to deny membership in exceptional circumstances at their discretion. The Steering Group may act on behalf of the scheme in seeking explanations from a person whose activity is considered to be contrary to the interests of the membership and in the last resort may remove members from the scheme at their absolute discretion.
  17. Members agree to be bound by the terms of this Agreement.
  18. The ABC LETS mailing list will only be made available to members of the Steering Group and may only be used for activities directly related to the administration of the ABC LETS scheme.
